Grand Designs – Queenstown House
As the local Queenstown builder chosen for the project, MWH Construction completed the build in late 2023. A challenging and rewarding project for clients John and Sharon Russell as seen on Grand Designs New Zealand Series 8 episode 7.
Built on the side of a mountain over 2 and a half years and during a global pandemic. The result is a beautifully finished 375m2 architecturally designed home with breath taking views over Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables mountain range.
Tucker Beach
A modern renovation of an existing mud brick home designed by Kerr Ritchie https://www.kerrritchie.com. Two square like oversized glass boxes created with Thermosash glass topped with a living warm roof which grows a beautiful Central Otago garden juxtaposed against the raw existing mud brick. The entire internal living spaces was renovated to meet the sleek internal of the new Louvre like glass living kitchen and dinning structure. An award winning renovation detailed in perfection.
Malaghans
Tasked with the challenge to integrate a new bedroom and large ensuite into a small building platform, MWH was engaged to create a new dynamic, of the “old vs new”. Highlighting and renovating the entire old 90s like facade and bringing the building up to date aesthetically within todays modern visual vernacular. A full renovation of the existing entities and integrating a new glazed walkway to a stunning master bedroom with modern facilities and hardware straight from Denmark. Landscaping in keeping with the existing and modified to suit the traditional Central Otago look.
Hogan’s Gully
A beautiful home crafted to perfection. Concrete, steel and glass, materials used to build the most inviting and warm home. MWH delivered a ground breaking build with oversized sheets of Corten steel cut to perfection by our skilled team onsite to create a dynamic monolithic look with precast and cast in situ concrete elements using state of the art Thermo-mass insulated panels to book end the house. The north face is glazed in extremely over sized and never tested residential glazing suites to save on cost. The entire inside is lined with MWH milled and grown Southern Beech timber skarking perfectly installed to offset the brutal like construction elements and bring warmth into the home. Designed by the local Martteen Hoffman of http://www.hofmans.co.nz.
Arrowtown House
Sited on a steep and marginal site, Arrowtown house stands out in its street, giving a hint at the unique disposition of space within. The house expresses the rock face it nestles into. The crinkled timber form alludes to the rock face which may be glimpsed from most of the internal spaces. The immediacy to the street is successfully managed, allowing the occupants to retreat inside to domestic privacy. Space is expertly handled to maximise the house’s size, and the living areas, lofts and two bathrooms, do not feel at all small. Designed by http://www.hofmans.co.nz.
